Measure first, group your everyday items and choose baskets around the way you use them.
Start with the usable width, depth and height of the space. Remember any door hinges, shelf supports or other features that reduce the opening.
Leave enough room to take the basket out comfortably. A container that fits tightly may be awkward to use when it is full.
Think about what you reach for together. Keeping related items in one place can make a cupboard or shelf easier to navigate.
Capacity alone does not tell you whether a basket will fit a particular shelf. Compare its external dimensions, opening and handle arrangement.
If you plan to stack containers, check that the product is designed for stacking and follow its usage instructions. Do not assume that matching shapes make a stable stack.
